A Doctor of Philosophy in energy engineering, she authored many articles and books on sustainable development, She stands up to threats against her country and calls out misrepresentation.
Barbara Kahn, award winning playwright, has been producing plays annually that focus on historical themes as they intersect with women’s rights and LGBT visibility. See her work at the Theater for the New City and LES Festival NYC.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: also known as AOC, is an American politician and activist serving since 2019 as the U.S. representative for New York's 14th congressional district. Her campaign is driven entirely by grassroots volunteers and donations. The Congresswoman refuses to take any contributions from corporations. She has also raised funds for communities outside of her district that seek relief from disaster.
Helen Keller, her autobiography inspired me as a child. She could not hear and she was blind and she was angry with her teacher. As I child, I couldn’t communicate my anger to numerous bullies so, for survival, I became as invisible as possible. Eventually, Helen Keller learned how to communicate. She learned how to express herself. It inspired me to do the same. It was hard. I had to work hard to be seen. Favorite Keller quote: “Life is an adventure or it is nothing.” -Jeremy Fortner
Maria Ressa, a Filipino-American journalist exposed government corruption in the Philippines. Received the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. “How To Stand Up To A Dictator” is her book detailing her actions to preserve freedom of expression.
